The Mouse Gets the Cheese: A Following Directions Game

I asked on Facebook what kind of activities you would like to see more of.  Most of you answered Book-specific activities.  Since I plan on doing a Book-of-the-Week, I figured that will take care of that request! Another popular response was Following Directions.

I found this cute clip art from Scrappin Doodles and decided to use it for a following directions activity.  This activity has 1-step, 2-step, and 3-step directions (16 of each type, total of 46 direction cards).  The directions are printed on cards with the cute little mice on them.

The activity also comes with large cheese wedges that you can attach to a file folder - just staple the sides shut and you have a storage container for your cards!  I used yellow folders to keep the cheese theme going.

There are small cheese wedges as well.  They are the perfect size for adhering to the side of a tissue box - if I have convinced you to save all of your used tissue boxes (Click the link if you missed my post on tissue box therapy)  If you choose this type of game, you may need to cut off the top of the tissue box for the cards to fit in.

There are basically two ways to play this game:

1.  Place the cards in the folder or box.   Have students draw out a card and complete the direction (they can read it or have an adult read it to them).  If they are correct, they keep the card.  The player with the most cards at the end of the game is the winner.

2.  Give students a predetermined number of cards.  As they complete directions correctly, place the cards in the box or folder so the mouse can eat the cheese.  If incorrect, students can try again on their next turn.  The player that is first to get rid of their cards is the winner.

You can download this activity in my TPT store.  Hope you like it!
