Bubble Categories

Time for my monthly (or so) check-in. ;)  Boy have I been busy with Jamberry work and end of the school year goings-on, but I wanted to share some fun books and another activity for those of you who are still in school or working summer school!

Summer is a great time to play with Bubbles!  I found these adorable books on Amazon and I've been using them in some of my sessions:

I've noticed that my students this year have really struggled with categories - especially naming a category when given members of the category. So, I developed this activity.

There are bubble wand cards that each have 3 category members each:

Then there are bubble container cards with a category name:

There are a few different ways you can use this activity.

1. First, you can use the bubble wand cards separately. Shuffle and have students draw a card. They can read the three members and try to come up with the category.
2. You could also use the bubble container cards separately. Shuffle and have students draw a card. They can read the category name and try to name a specified number of members.
3. Another way to use the bubble container cards would be to divide students into teams.  One card is drawn and teams take turns naming a member of the category until one team can no longer think of a member. Once that happens, the other team gets the point.
4. Use both sets of cards together, mix them up and play a Memory Game.

Easter Roll & Colors

Hello! Long time, no see!!  I feel like I'm so out of the blog loop lately!  I've been busy at work and at home and I just have to say that I'm so grateful that other bloggers have been creating some amazing materials to make my planning life so much easier!  I've been ALL about the no-print and no-color-ink products that my bloggy buddies have created! They've made my life so much easier!

I'm starting to plan for the spring now and I wanted to share some print and go worksheets I made for mixed groups!

There are three different worksheets that are designed to be used with various targets and in mixed groups.  There are 6 spaces on which to write targets for the student.  Students will roll a die and complete the task on the corresponding line (e.g., say a target word, provide a definition, provide a synonym, etc.). If correct, they can color a portion of the picture that corresponds to the number they rolled.

Each of the three worksheets has a different level of difficulty. The Easter Egg Sheet has one space to color per number/target: 

The Bunny Sheet has two spaces per number/target:

The Easter Basket has 5 spaces per number/target:

The Easter basket is probably your best choice for articulation practice so that your students can get multiple productions in a session!

Life Cycle of a Frog

One of my classrooms has been learning about the life cycles recently.  They're learning about caterpillars and butterflies, eggs and chicks, and tadpoles and frogs.  So, when I found this adorable clip art from Kari Bolt on TPT, I knew I had to create something for them!

By the way, they actually have a real tadpole in their classroom!

I decided to create a simple book outlining the Life Cycle of a Frog.  This is a full-color 6 page (full pages) book that describes the sequence of a Frog's Life Cycle:

So the kids would be able to have something to take home and share what they are learning with their families, I also created a mini-booklet.  This mini-booklet is identical to the large one, but on half-pages and in black and white.  This makes it easier for you to photocopy!  Also, I set up the pages so that you could make one cut, staple, and go (no sorting the pages!):

Here's my Freebie - Rainy Day /r/ Articulation Pack:

You get nine /r/ initial, nine /r/ medial, and nine /r/ final word cards.  Each word is placed on a raindrop.  Here's what they look like:

You also get a page of blank raindrop cards if you wish to add your own words.  I have used these to work on /r/ in carrier phrases.  Lay some articulation cards on the floor.  Have students stand over them and drop the rain cards.  They can say "It's raining on the___" or "It rained on the ___."

Book of the Week: Big Wide Mouthed Frog

Did you catch my Articulation Frogs Craftivity posted earlier this week?  (If not, you can find it HERE).

Well, in keeping with the frog theme, my book of the week this week is "The Big Wide-Mouthed Frog" by Ana Martin Larranaga.

 

In this story, the Big Wide-Mouthed Frog hops off to see the world.  He meets different creatures (a kangaroo, a koala, a possum, an emu, and a crocodile).  He asks the same question to each animal he meets:  "Who are you and what do you eat?"  In the end, he meets a crocodile who, coincidentally, eats big wide-mouthed frogs and the frog quickly hops away.

I made some quick sequencing cards to accompany the book (graphics from Graphics Factory).  You can use just the animals to sequence the story, or use the animals and food for a matching task.  I tend to have my little guys make sentences (e.g., "Kangaroos eat grass"). To accompany this book, I often do an activity that I posted about a few months ago (HERE).  Essentially, I place different colored shapes inside a hula hoop (you could also use language or articulation cards) and give each student 1-2 hopping frogs (the kind you press down on and they "jump").  The students either make the frogs jump into the "pond" or toss them into the "pond," depending on motor skills.  

Then they need to tell me a sentence about what happened:

• My frog landed on a blue rectangle
• My frogs hopped on a red circle and orange triangle
• The red frog landed on the blue rectangle and the green frog landed on the orange triangle.
• I got "robot" (articulation card)
